Queenstown craft beer bar Smiths this week announced its winner of their annual NZ IPA competition and the NZ Brewers guild sat up and took notice. In line with their policy of awarding the best contract brewing facility with a trophy at their annual awards, Smiths Craft Beer Bar will receive a similar trophy for supplying the beer taps, lines and glassware used to pour Epic Beer's winning IPA.

Speaking after the winner was announced, Smiths Pascal Fillion said it was great to be recognized for the risk taken building a craft beer bar. “It’s fabulous, we are really happy, we hope other bars throughout the country will also be recognised for the risks they have taken”

Epic’s Luke Nicholas was also thrilled and was looking forward to hanging up his First Place Snowboard Trophy in his new awards museum he was constructing on Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour. “I’ve literally run out of room in my garage for all my medals and trophies! So it will be great for the public to wander around and look at all of them properly for once”

For the record:

1st Place: Epic - Hop Harvester

Peoples Choice: Sidewinder Brewing - Passive Aggressive.
