GABS to expand into any city or country that starts with the letter “A”
The Great Australian Beer Spectapular plans to aggressively expand and they know they have an acronym that will let them do it.
Following on from GABS' recent successful expansion into Auckland and the crafty capers of its founders Steve Jefferes and Guy Greenstone, Jefferes and Greenstone have indicated that America, Amsterdam, Armenia and even Angola are on the cards.
“It just makes it really easy if we don’t have to change the name of the festival; the thought of putting the festival into Orlando or Oman was tempting but “GOBS” just did not have the same ring to it, so picking places that start with ‘A’ makes a lot of sense,” Greenstone explains.
This year's lucky festival attendees will get a chance to vote for the next location of a new GABS, with a grand prize of attending the new festival as a VIP and your very own giant Jenga game to take home signed by all the brewers included.
It seems they won’t have much trouble finding new territories to bring their stunt beer format festival to new places with as many as 10 countries starting with the letter ‘A’ and countless cities all across the world. The real challenge will be getting non-drinking cultures such as Afghanistan to buy into the fun of tasting paddles and Silly Hat Sunday. “With some thoughtful ground work I’m sure once the locals see The Great Afghanistani Beer Spectapular in big letters over a mosque they will come flocking and getting a ferris wheel in there will be the clincher,” says Jefferes.
